Two Telugu movies for Oscar entry

Aa Naluguru and Grahanam have made into the 18 best films selected from India. Among these films, only two films would be finalized and sent to Oscar as nominations.

Oscars and Telugu ( for that matter Indian) movies face opposite directions. The main reason is the cultural difference between the two societies.

Indian Govt has send 17 official entries to Oscar for nomination for Best Foriegn movie. Only 3 were nominated. And none of them own the Oscars.

  • 1957 - Mother India
  • 1988 - Salaam Bombay!
  • 2001 - Lagaan

Mostly european movies steal the show in the Foriegn movie categories since their culture is same as American. Do you see anyone wearing dothi in American or European movies?

The chances of Aa Naluguru getting an Oscar are abolutely zero. The Oscar judges (or for that matter you or me) cannot judge something that he/she cannot understand.

Or is the problem with the selection process. Why does Indian Govt always select an "art-film" like movies for the Oscars. Why not nominate commercially successful blockbuster movies?

Best of luck for all the entries for Oscar from India.
